From Fingerboarders, For Fingerboarders
Kingpin was born from a simple observation: there was nowhere truly great to buy and sell used fingerboard gear. Sure, there were Facebook groups and forum threads, but nothing purpose-built for our community. Nothing that understood what makes a "heavily used but still sick" deck different from actual trash. Nothing that got why shipping a complete setup internationally needs special care.
So we built it ourselves.
We're a small, passionate team at Shmaplex — a fingerboard brand you might already know. We work closely with makers from around the world, importing and distributing fingerboard decks, wheels, and obstacles throughout the APAC region. Having watched the community grow from a niche hobby into a global movement, Kingpin is our way of giving back: a platform that treats fingerboard gear with the respect it deserves.

Kingpin isn't a venture-backed startup trying to "disrupt" fingerboarding. It's built by Shmaplex — a team that works directly with fingerboard brands and makers around the world, helping bring their gear into the APAC scene and staying closely connected to the community along the way.
Building Kingpin is our way of supporting fingerboarding beyond distribution. We know what it's like to hunt for the right setup, to pass on gear to someone who'll actually ride it, and to want a place where buying and selling feels fair, safe, and straightforward.
This platform exists because we care about the scene. Not because we spotted a "market opportunity," but because we're part of the community that keeps it moving forward.
Built for the Community
Kingpin is being built with the community in mind — not just riders, but the small brands and shops that keep fingerboarding alive. Our goal is to lower the barrier for independent businesses to reach a global audience, starting with the APAC region and expanding from there.
As the platform evolves, we plan to open-source parts of Kingpin, share what we learn, and make key features available for others to study, reuse, and build on. Transparency matters to us, even when everything can't be open from day one.
Shops & Open Features (Coming Soon)
We're actively working on features that will allow small businesses, brands, and independent sellers to create their own shops on Kingpin. Along the way, parts of the platform will be shared openly — from tools to infrastructure — so others can learn from or build alongside us.
The Team
We're a small, dedicated team wearing many hats. Some of us write code at 2am because we had an idea for a better search filter. Others obsess over support tickets, making sure every question gets a thoughtful answer. We all fingerboard, we all care deeply about this community, and we're all learning as we go.
Building a global marketplace isn't easy, especially when you're doing it without massive funding or a huge team. We make mistakes. We ship bugs (that we fix quickly). We're always balancing "what's best for the platform long-term" with "what do users need right now."
But we show up every day because we believe in what we're building. And your feedback, your patience, your support — it means everything.
