What artists are making
Artist Theme Studio is for creating installable storefront themes for Kingpin shops. A theme can define layout sections, design tokens, typography choices, image treatments, product-grid behavior, and preview data that helps brands understand the finished look.
For v1, themes are manifest, design-token, and template based. Arbitrary JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML execution, plugins, tracking scripts, and unsandboxed runtime code are not accepted.
Who this is for
This is for fingerboard artists, graphic designers, photographers, scene builders, deck artists, and creative crews who want their visual style to help brands launch better shops.
You do not need to be a developer, but you should be comfortable preparing organized assets, following file naming rules, and designing for mobile shoppers first.
Revenue split
Approved paid themes sold through Kingpin Theme Market use a 90/10 artist split: 90% to the artist and 10% to Kingpin.
The split is calculated on net theme revenue after payment processing fees, refunds, chargebacks, taxes collected/remitted, currency conversion, and payout costs. If a purchase is refunded or charged back, the related artist share can be reversed before payout.
Theme package requirements
Submit a ZIP package with a required kingpin-theme.json manifest, tokens.json, supported section definitions, preview data, and only the assets needed by the theme.
Theme packages must identify the theme name, version, author, pricing intent, supported sections, required assets, preview screenshots when available, and mobile/tablet/desktop behavior notes.
Asset rules
Use original work, properly licensed assets, or assets you have permission to sell as part of a theme. Do not include brand logos, rider likenesses, product photos, fonts, or artwork you cannot license for resale.
Images should be optimized for storefront use. Use descriptive lowercase file names, avoid spaces, and include alt text guidance where images are meaningful.
Mobile-first design rules
Every theme must work on phones before it gets fancy on desktop. Product titles, prices, buy actions, shipping cues, and seller identity must stay easy to scan.
Avoid tiny text, fixed-width layouts, hover-only controls, overlapping hero text, and product cards that depend on perfect photography.
Accessibility requirements
Themes must preserve keyboard navigation, visible focus states, semantic headings, text alternatives for meaningful images, and readable contrast between text and backgrounds.
Decorative effects should never block product details, checkout actions, or essential shop policies.
Prohibited content
Do not submit hateful, sexually explicit, violent, harassing, stolen, counterfeit, malware-like, tracking-heavy, or misleading content.
Do not include arbitrary executable code for v1. JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML execution, iframes, remote script tags, and unsandboxed custom widgets will be rejected.
Review and decisions
Submissions enter the Theme Review Queue. Kingpin reviews package structure, visual quality, marketplace fit, accessibility, mobile behavior, asset rights, and safety.
A theme may be approved, rejected, or sent back with requested changes. Rejections include notes when possible, but approval is not guaranteed and approved themes can later be unpublished if they become unsafe, broken, infringing, or misleading.
How brands buy and install themes
Approved themes appear in Kingpin Theme Market. Brands can preview a theme against sample shop data before buying.
After purchase, the theme is unlocked for that shop profile. Paid artist themes cannot be applied by a shop that has not purchased them, and unapproved themes are never installable.
How payouts work
Theme purchases are recorded with gross amount, processing-fee assumptions, refunds, artist share, Kingpin share, and payout ledger entries.
Artist payouts are prepared from approved ledger balances after refund and chargeback windows, account setup, tax, and payout requirements are satisfied.
